Antigens and Antibodies for Poliovirus

Recently, polioviruses were detected in wastewater samples across various counties in New York, suggesting a community spread among unvaccinated groups. Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disease caused by the poliovirus. There are three serotypes of polioviruses, namely wild poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. Polio is a contagious disease that spreads from person to person and can infect one's spinal cord, causing paralysis. Nevertheless, vaccination is so far the most effective way to prevent polio infection.

Polio may be detected by the discovery of polioviruses within stool specimens or diagnosed through testing for neutralizing antibodies against polioviruses in blood samples. Meanwhile, ELISA-based serology is a sensitive and specific method for determining antibodies from infection with vaccines or wild viruses. Creative Diagnostics offers polio-related antigens and antibodies for ELISA assay development suitable for assessing the efficacy of vaccines and qualifying and/or standardizing vaccine batches and protocols.

Poliovirus Antigens

Polioviruses constitute three closely related serotypes (types 1, 2, and 3) within a large group of enteroviruses C, each of which can cause poliomyelitis. Poliomyelitis is highly contagious and spreads by the fecal-oral and oral-oral routes. Humans are the only natural hosts of poliovirus.

Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) Antigens

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is one of the most actively investigated gene therapy vehicles. It was initially discovered as a contaminant of adenovirus preparations, hence the name. Briefly, AAV is a protein shell surrounding and protecting a small, single-stranded DNA genome of approximately 4.8 kilobases (kb).
